ABUJA LAND SWAP INITIATIVE

The Land swap policy initiated by the FCT minister, Senator Bala Mohammed involves the granting of Greenfield lands to competent real estate developers who will in turn provide infrastructure such as roads, electricity, potable water, drainages, and sewer lines, communication dots to residents without any financial or technical demand on the government.

This policy is expected to bring in billions of naira from banks in and outside the country and also generate over one million jobs for the teeming unemployed Nigerian. This policy is said to have been adopted in countries like France, Japan, USA, China, Germany, Egypt, India and Denmark during periods of rapid urban development as is currently being experienced in Abuja. It is equally a policy that has been endorsed by the World Bank as suitable for any country experiencing budget crisis like Nigeria.

abuja land swap initiative NEW

Barely is any policy suggested by the world bank or any other financial institution for the greater good, especially to the third world countries to which Nigeria belongs. This privatization prospect is a brilliant idea but as stated in a previous comment, dis only puts capital in the hands of a few, and this few might be the foreign private developers as regards the land swap initiative. Privatization is a core prospect of the world bank and this amongst other factors is a major factor impeding the development(not physical development in this case) of not just Abuja or Nigeria but Africa as well as other third world countries.

HOW WILL IT BENEFIT THE INDEGENES? NEW
by: DANLADI AMINU NKWAIN'DA'NZHIN

The land swap policy is actually a good idea but my question is if the estate developers harnesses the lands will the estates be free or affordable to the indegenes? You see, we will only be shifting government responsibility to some individuals and enriching them the more while the poor suffer from what would have been a balance to all. Please if Buhari's administration can place this demand of mutual benefit then the land swap policy is a welcomed idea

GOOD INITIATIVE NEW
by: AGWU KENNETHAnonymous

Land Swap initiative on paper is perfect. it will actually provide housing true to its meaning. The private sector is capable of driving this initiative to achieve its objectives. My fears however is the level of corruption in this country. In countries where this initiative succeeded their level of corruption was not as high as we have it in Nigeria. Bala is intelligent, i like him but tribalism, over-politicization of issues, loss of steam/momentum and indeed the surrounding corruption in high and low places around him WILL kill this initiative. To sustain it,Jonathan should try to keep him in this office for pretty longer time. However, if Buhari wins, which is also possible, then the change in government may hit the initiative under the belt. Let us try to clean our self. You can start with yourself man!
