Faulty Abuja Stadium floodlight stops Eagles’ training

by guardian

THE Super Eagles were not able to train under floodlight yesterday because the Abuja Stadium does not have the facilities to supply light to the pitch at night, an official of the team has revealed.

The Super Eagles were earlier scheduled to train at least three times at night to condition the players with what they will encounter when they meet Swaziland in a World Cup qualifier in Mbabane this weekend. But the team was forced to cancel such plans when they realized the stadium did not have the facilities to power the floodlight.

Speaking to The Guardian yesterday, Super Eagles’ Media Officer, Toyin Ibitoye, however, said the failure to train under floodlight would not hamper Nigeria’s performance in the game because ‘most of the players are experienced enough to play under any condition.’

He revealed that the team will depart for Mbabane, the capital of Swaziland, tomorrow for the 2018 World Cup qualifier slated to hold on Friday.

He also disclosed that Chief Coach, Sunday Oliseh, led the Eagles’ training session yesterday, as the team continued their preparation for the match.
