NCAA Assures Operators of Flights, Moves Meeting with Unions to Abuja
The Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Muhtar Usman, has declared that the Nigerian airspace is opened to flights operations and called on all air travellers to disregard any notice of travel ban in Nigeria.
Usman stressed that any notice of a travel ban was absolute falsehood, misleading and the handiwork of some mischief makers.
The agency said in a statement that a meeting earlier slated for Monday October 26, 2015 has now been shifted to tomorrow October 28, 2015 at the authority’s corporate headquarters in Abuja to enable all parties be present.
According to the Director General, separate meetings were held at the NCAA Conference room in Lagos last Friday of October 23, 2015.
The agency said it had a meeting with the sister union, the Air Transport Senior Staff Services Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) on one hand and another with the representatives of the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and National Association of Aircraft Pilot and Engineers (NAAPE).
It stated that it was at these meetings that an agreement was reached with the NCAA management to suspend any form of industrial action and the circular to that effect was promptly circulated to all members.
Also at the meeting, both parties unanimously decided that the union executives would go back to their members and engage in further consultations, while another meeting had been scheduled for Monday October 26, 2015.
“The Director General wishes to advise Nigerians and indeed all air travellers to disregard the purported ban,” the statement signed by the acting General Manager, Public Relations, Sam Adurogboye said.
