Nigeria: The Bank Heats Abuja Night Life
by Daily Independent
When talking about cities with vibrant night life in Nigeria, Lagos, Portharcourt, Benin, Asaba, tops the list. Abuja, Nigeria's capital appears on the tail end of the list. Some even consider Abuja as one of the most boring cities in Nigeria. They even leave Abuja on weekends to go to other cities.
Abuja was never known for social activities. It was usually like a ghost town on Fridays and weekends. Many have however blamed inactivity of the capital city to security perception and constant harassment of young girls who are often mistaken for sex workers.
Things however are changing. Night clubs and hang-outs are springing up around the city and slowly the city is becoming lively at nights. There are many entertainment events going on a regular basis. Many musicians and comedians now throw shows in Abuja, something that was not common a few years ago.
There is a particular club that is making waves at the moment and has been attracting the high rollers even from outside Abuja. It's called 'The Bank' club and it has become a showbiz hub where celebrities and socialites in the city.
Many music stars, movie artistes, and comedians find the place as a perfect hang-out while in town. This may not be unconnected to the traffic the club currently enjoys. At different occasions, the likes of Nigeria's most popular and celebrated entertainment peers-of-the-realm, 2face, P-Square, Iyanya, Davido, Olamide, Don Jazzy, Basket Mouth and Wizkid, have visited and gotten the best in socializing and expanding their grid. Also visiting the club has been, Dbanj, M.I, Femi Kuti, Wande Coal, Reekado Banks, Phyno, Lil Kesh, Olu Maintain, Uti, Patoranking , and I Go Dye.
Speaking with one of the clubs managers, they explained that the club was aimed at giving Abuja socialites the opportunity to party like rock stars. "We saw a big gap in the night life in Abuja and we decided to take clubbing to a new level. Not that there were no clubs in Abuja when we came in, but we decided to that the game higher. You can see that we have the best Djs in town, the best ambience, and all types of drinks. Our goal is for everyone to party like a rock star. Probably that is why artistes come here anytime they are in Abuja."
