Abuja IDPs Lynch Two Over Unconfirmed Allegations of Motorcycle Theft
The Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at the new Kuchingoro IDP camp in Abuja on Wednesday evening lynched two yet-to-be identified persons over unconfirmed allegations and suspicion of motorcycle theft.
THISDAY gathered that the incident happened at about 5pm, and the duo were lynched to death before the police arrived.
According to eyewitness account, the duo had entered the camp and were going about their business, when they were accosted by some youths in the IDP camp.
When they could not reasonably explain what their business in the camp was, the youths were said to have accused them of being motorcycle thieves.
According to the IDPs, they had reasons to suspect the duo because they have had incessant and repeated cases of armed robbery in the camp, alledging that the police had always turned a blind eye to their complaints.
Taking the law into their hands, the IDPs allegedly descended on them, beating them with wooden planks, bottles and axes, as well as pelted them with stones.
Whilst they were carrying out their acts of jungle justice, the deceased persons were crying out their innocence to no avail, as they were lynched to death.
Having succeeded in beating them to a point of stupor, one of the youths brought two tyres and hung it round the neck of the two suspects and proceeded to pour fuel on them.
Although they succeded in burning the first person to death, they however fled into the bushes when the police arrived to the scene.
