Banning of commercial mini buses in Abuja city center

The FCT administration has banned commercial mini buses popularly called Araba bus from operating in the Abuja city center or some of the major routes leading to them.

According to the FCT minister, Senator Bala Mohammed, who called for the cooperation of Abuja residents, The benefit of the policy include, cheaper transport fares, enhanced passenger comfort and security, reliability of vehicle, and reduction of the effect of environmental pollution by some of the rickety vehicles that hitherto plied the routes. He added that the policy would lead to the identification of transport operators and companies through biometrics data capturing, promotion of healthy competition among operators, reduction of traffic congestion, road traffic accidents and transport related crimes and criminalities.

The high capacity buses which is meant to replace the mini buses seem to be in very short supply hence causes serous hardship to commuters.
