Kanu Nwankwo: Born on the first of August 1976 in Owerri IMO state, he played in the forward position for both club and country. He started his career with Iwuanyanwu Nationale of Owerri before moving to Europe to play for Ajax, Inter Milan, Arsenal, Westbrowish Albion and Portsmouth where he retired. Rashidi Yekini:  Born on the 23rd of October 1963 in Kaduna, he started his football career at UNTL Kaduna before moving to Shooting stars of Ibadan from 1982 - 1984. He later move to Abiola babes and Africa sports before moving to Europe in 1990 where he played  for Portuguese club Vitoria setubal, Greek side Olympiakos and many other clubs before moving back to Africa in 1999 and ending his career at Gateway FC of Ogun state. He is also part of the Nigeria team that Won the African Cup of Nations in Tunisia 1994. Mushiru Lawal: Born on the 8th of June 1954 in Abeokuta Ogun state. He played in the midfield for both club and country. He played his club football for shooting stars between 1975 - 1984 where he helped the club to become the first football club in Nigeria history to win a continental title in 1976 winning the African cup winners club. He also played for Stationery stores from 1985-1986 before moving to Abiola babes in 1987-1998. He went back to shooting stars UB 1989 and played there till 1991. He won 86 caps for Nigeria scoring 12 goals, he holds the record as being the only player on the continent to appear at five consecutive African Cup of Nations from 1976-1984. He was an integral part of the team that won Nigeria first African Cup of Nations title in 1980. He died on the 6th of July 1991.

  

Austin Jay Jay Okocha: He is a former midfielder for both club and country. Born on the 14th of August 1973 in Enugu. He is arguably the most talented Nigerian and African footballer with the finest dribbling skills. He won 73 caps for Nigeria from 1993-2006 winning several titles which include FIFA under 17 world cup in 1993, African Cup of Nations in 1994, Olympics gold in 1996, second place finish in Ghana/Nigeria 2000. Stephen Keshi: He holds the records as one of the few African players to have won the Cup of Nations as a footballer and as a coach. Born on the 23rd of January 1962 in Azare Bauchi State. He started his club career in 1978 with ACB of Lagos and played for some other African club before moving to Europe in 1986 where he played for Lokeren and Anderlecht of Belgium where he won Belgian league championship, RC Strasbourg and other clubs,He also played in America. He was the captain of the Nigeria team that won African cup of Nations in 1994 and also captain Nigeria to her first world cup. He qualified Togo to her first world cup tournament as a coach, coach Mali before coaching Nigeria where he won the 2013 Nations Cup and qualify Nigeria for the 2014 world cup where Nigeria crashed out at the second round. He died on the 7th of June 2016

 

Segun Odegbami: Born on the 27th of August 1952 in Lagos. He played in this forward position for both club and country. H played his entire club football  for shooting Stars of Ibadan between 1970 and 1984. He was part of the 1976 African cup winner club team of shooting stars. He won 46 caps for Nigeria and scored 23 goals. He was Part of the 1980 Nigeria team that won the Nations Cup on home soil. He was nicknamed the mathematician due to his skill, speed and precision when he plays.

INSPIRING STORY OF WOLE SOYINKA

Wole Soyinka is one of the most outstanding professors in Nigeria, he is a poet, essayist and a professor of literature. He was the first African to be awarded a Nobel prize in literature in 1986. Born on the 13th of July 1934 in Abeokuta, he came from a humble background and grew up in a very religious family. He had both his primary and secondary education in Abeokuta before proceeding to University College Ibadan, now known as University of Ibadan where he studied English literature, Greek and western history. He worked on his first radio play while at the university which was later broadcasted by Nigerian broadcasting service in July 1954, he later relocated to England to complete his bachelor's degrees  at the University of Leeds. He has so many published works including poem, essay and drama. He founded the Drama Association of Nigeria in 1964. He has lectured and headed the department of English at the University of Ibadan, Obafemi Awolowo University Ife, and University of Lagos.

 

He is politically active and have been involved in politics through his write up to demand for better governance. Due to his involvement in politics and political views, he has been imprisoned by different administration and had to escape from Nigeria during General Sani Abacha regime. He was awarded an Honoris causa doctorate by university of Leeds in 1972.
